Martha Jones and The Doctor

Just finished watching all the Captain Jack episodes of Doctor Who so I could catch up on his story. In doing this I discovered that Doctor Who is one of the better sci-fi series I have seen. In fact I love it! The plots are tight and interrelationships are well handled. The characters are just stellar and I really do care about them. They have successfully kicked the Star Trek Technobabbletron to the curb and understand a story should be about PEOPLE not TECHNOLOGY. Like Torchwood and Battlestar Galactica it does a masterful job of storytelling. More fun, less dark than Galactica, not quite as deep with extra stuff as Lost, but in the end most satisfying.

Episodes which are written by Russell T. Davies are pure genius. I would put him up with the writers for Lost and Galactica any day of the week. Serious good stuff and should really get more attention than it does on this side of the pond.
Martha Jones Character from Doctor Who

Martha Jones, played by Freema Agymeman, the Doctor’s Companion in several of these episodes may very well be the quintessential example of female lead character in my book. She is smart as anyone, beautiful as anyone, and a dynamic and inspiring presence. She totally rocks and I am so, so happy to hear she will be on Torchwood going forward.

Captain Jack Harkness

Captain Jack is another reason to like this show. Both in Doctor Who and his own series Torchwood, Jack is an enigmatic character as strong as they come. Mysterious and quite literally the most self centered person ever, he oozes sex appeal and humor. So much so that even his critics have a hard time complaining.

To quote Captain Jack himself, on his nature and life:

“I don’t exist. For a man with my charisma that’s quite an achievement.”

The soundtrack is awesome too. Get it here! Seriously, good stuff. If you don’t have iTunes get it from Amazon here.
